From T-story, to Naver, to WordPress AdSenseto advertise, the performance of your monetized blog depends a lot on how you place those ads. In this post, I'll show you how to use 7 Ways to Optimize AdSensein this article.

The content in Doing this is based on experience and may contain some errors. Please refer to other sources, such as blogs and YouTube, to help you succeed in your blogging endeavors.

Getting started

As I mentioned earlier, optimizing ads with AdSense is a must if you're running a monetized blog, and it's something you should be actively studying if you're waiting for AdSense approval.

The important thing is that you make money while making the people who visit your blog less annoyed and less uncomfortable. In this post, we'll talk about AdSense ad placement and how to optimize for each ad type based on our experience as of 2024.

7 Best Ways to Optimize AdSense

1. optimize your interstitial ads with a focus on

Interstitialsis, in short, using the entire web browser as a billboard. It looks like the image below. This is a screen capture of an interstitial ad that appeared as I navigated within my blog.

Generally speaking, once you've logged into AdSense and set it to auto-advertise, there's nothing else you need to do. It's worth noting that interstitials are now appearing on both PC and mobile, whereas until about 2022, they were a mobile-only ad type.

Picture link

When I write a post in WordPress, I usually paste a picture and set options like size, alignment, drop shadow, etc. And then I use the link optionwhen setting up the, Click to zoom in and select "Media Files" for the picture you need to provide information about, and then click the This will trigger the interstitial when a visitor clicks to see what the picture is about.

If you ever need to open a new window, you can set the 'Open in New Tab' setting. However, For ad revenue purposes, we recommend the Open Current Window option (no setting). As a rule of thumb, "display" ads, which are the top and body ads combined, get about twice as many impressions as interstitials, but the revenue is much higher for interstitials.

Button links

You can activate interstitial ads by applying a link to the button, whether it's a button to download a file or a button to go to another webpage. All you need to do is add the new media to your WordPress library, and then copy and paste the URL of the file you uploaded, as shown above.

I've implemented an example button like below, which is actually a guide from Google, so please download and read it. There are also text links, post box links, and more, so you can apply them to your post accordingly.

RPM for mobile interstitials(See the About box below for details) is still the highest of all. Not surprisingly, mobile phones are used much more frequently than PCs. In terms of actual revenue, interstitial RPMs are said to be twice as high as other types of ads, which is why optimizing for interstitials is so important.

RPM

Revenue Per Millewhich refers to the ad revenue generated per 1,000 impressions. It is calculated by dividing the estimated revenue by the number of ad impressions generated and multiplying by 1,000.
Ad RPM = (Estimated Earnings / Impressions) * 1000
For example, if the estimated revenue from 45,000 ad impressions is $180, the ad RPM would be ($180 / 45,000) * 1000, or $4.

2. Make Anchor Ads a Must

Anchor ads are one of the most important AdSense ad types, empirically driving around 10% of your overall revenue.

As far as I know, Google has improved the UX of anchor ads on mobile since 2023, so I don't think your blog visitors will be too bothered by anchor ads on mobile. If you take a look at the picture below, you can see the anchor ad at the bottom (I'm seeing a lot of real estate ads this morning, I guess the forester is being diligent).

3. the top ad, which is about 25% of your revenue, is also a must!

Top ads account for about 251 TP3T of my total revenue. In comparison, bottom ads are relatively unimportant because blog visitors typically don't read all the way to the bottom of a post, so it's a good idea to set up WordPress so that links to other similar posts appear.

4. keep the number of body ads to no more than two or three

In general, the number of ads decreases the CPC, so it's not recommended to include too many body ads.

CPC

Cost Per ClickThis stands for cost per click, which is how much the advertiser pays each time a blog visitor clicks on an ad. The higher this number is, the more the advertiser pays.

5. removing sidebar ads won't have much of an impact

Sidebar ads are a type of ad that exists on PC but not mobile. They typically have a very low click-through rate, which can lead to a higher number of ads and a lower CPC.

In my experience, there's a trend toward removing sidebar ads to reduce visitor eyestrain and keep them focused on the content of the post.

6. Avoid third-party ad platforms like AdFit, Sponsored Ads, etc.

Ad platforms other than Google AdSense are significantly less profitable to begin with; they can encroach on your AdSense ad spots and reduce your revenue; and they violate Google AdSense policies and are subject to penalties. It's like burning the thatch while trying to kill bedbugs.

7. The number of ads and CPC are usually inversely related

As the number of ads on our blogs increases, the CPC tends to decrease. All of the AdSense optimization methods we've talked about so far start with this concept, so it's a good idea to keep the number of ads on your blog, other than the core types of interstitial, anchor, and top ads, to a reasonable number that minimizes frustration from a visitor's perspective.

Organize

The key to optimizing your WordPress AdSense ads in 2024 is to focus on your interstitial, anchor, and top ad types and eliminate unnecessary ones.

When setting ad impressions, you should consider both improving the visitor experience and increasing your revenue, and always keep in mind that more ads can actually lower your CPC. With all of the above in mind, we believe that running a blog will help you improve your AdSense revenue.
